It’s with noting, though, that the last mega UTC typing competition was held back in 2020. You can compete in the UTC tournament from anywhere in the world, albeit, you need to be among the very best to get a seat at the table!

In the 2020 edition, for example, the typists needed a minimum qualifying speed of 170.7 WPM to make it to the 25 selected to compete.

UTC has traditionally offered some amazing prizes for winners. The first edition held back in 2009 culminated in a grand finale at the SXSW Interactive Festival, with a $2,000 grand prize for the winner. Sean Wrona emerged the fastest typing that inaugural edition.

The first round of the finals in that inaugural edition featured a 480-word standard English text where Sean Wrona set an unofficial speed typing record of 163 WPM. The second round presented an even more challenging 360-word, non-standard text containing special characters.

Again, Wrona dominated this with an impressive 124 WPM speed, further cementing his name as one of the very best typists in the world to date.

In the last edition of the UTC (2020), the winner Anthony(chak) dethroned Sean Wrona in an intense battle to take home a cash prize of $5000, a keyboard and typing accessories. The first runners up walked away with $500, a keyboard and typing accessories while the second runners up got a keyboard and typing accessories.

All of the top 25 typists got a premium Das Keyboard 4 Professional mechanical keyboard as a reward for completing what were certainly very challenging typing races that tested their speed, accuracy, endurance, and ability under pressure.

The 2020 edition had 414 registered participants, who completed over 94,000 typing tests on the competitive typing website TyprX.com.

The selected participants were from around the world including the United States, Israel, Norway, the United Kingdom, Canada, and New Zealand. The participants were a blend of high school and college students, computer science and medical majors, software developers, and there was also a female esports professional in the elite pack.
